History:
Since its organization in 1954 it has been the mission of the Freeland Northside Community Ambulance Association to serve as a non-profit Emergency Medical Service to the residents and visitors of the Borough of Freeland and the surrounding areas. Our job is to maintain and operate a basic life support (BLS) ambulance to treat and transport the ill and injured to the most appropriate medical care facility as suggested by the Pennsylvania Department Of Health Guidelines . Our goal has always been to provide the best possible care in what can be the worst possible moment in someone's life. The Freeland Northside Community Ambulance Association is also always looking to get out in the community as well with health and safety programs, AED checks, public education on health related topics, and help with local fundraisers and events, along with EMS coverage for The Freeland Whippets home games! The Freeland Northside Community Ambulance Association has a main coverage area of Freeland Borough, Jeddo Borough and parts of Hazle Township and Foster Townships.
Recent Changes:
In late 2022 due to increased staffing issues brought on by a shortage of EMS personnel that was made worse by the COVID-19 Pandemic the leadership of the FNCAA made the bold decision to change our licensing from a BLS unit to an Advanced Life Support (ALS) unit to help recruit more providers and better serve the citizens and visitors to the area. This change including bringing more equipment on board our units. With this change is allowed us to employ Paramedics and Advanced EMTs. The addition of a Paramedic brought along the ability of pre-hospital cardiac monitoring, IV fluids and medications, pre-hospital intubation and advanced airways, along with many other abilities that allow us to better treat patient's having a medical emergency. This change also allowed us to introduce our squad truck, this addition allows us to have a paramedic who can respond solo while initiating treatment and waiting for a transport capable unit. Allowing for faster response times as well as back up as needed if the primary truck is on a call. Additionally in the Fall of 2023 the Association was dealt a financial blow by when we lost approximately $30,000 in funding. This money is what allowed us to pay our insurances, which is our largest expensive yearly. Without this money we where forced to close our doors and cease operations. In the Fall of 2024 through a lot of hard work by our members we were able to come to an agreement to fund the ambulance. Thanks to this deal we were able to reopen the doors and start helping the public again. This also faced us with the challenge of trying to get staff back and recruit new staff. In Fall of 2024 we also added the certification level of Intermediate Life Support (ILS) to our license with the State Department of Health. Additionally we also added a Basic Life Support Quick Response Vehicle/Support Unit (BLSQRS/BLSQRV) with the State Department of Health. These two additions allow us to better help the community and recruit staff.
